The Institute for Learning in Retirement program offers both a fall and spring semester. ILR program courses start and end at various times during each semester. Students do not have to be present for an entire semester to participate in the ILR program.

HOW TO REGISTER – 3 Ways to Register!
During Registration students purchase an ILR membership for the semester, and then they are able to enroll in their classes. Students may register online, by phone, or in-person.
By Phone: Call the ILR office at (201) 447-7156 or call the ILR Program Supervisor, Mary Kate Mellow, at (201) 879-3571. You may also call Continuing Education and Workforce Development at (201) 447-7488.

COST
An ILR membership fee of $125.00 entitles students to choose up to 5 courses per semester, plus Bonus Courses. The ILR accepts new members at any time during the semester but does not prorate fees. ILR memberships are non-refundable.
PAYMENT
Payment is by credit card.
**Canceling your credit card payment through your credit card company will result in a $35.00 processing fee from the ILR. Failure to pay the fee will result in delayed registration.
Spring Semester Updates:
IR-316 History of the Ukraine and Russia has been canceled. Two new bonus courses have been added since the publication of the ILR Spring 2024 Catalog. More information on these new bonus courses is available at the bottom of this page. Like other studio art courses offered by the ILR program, students taking IR-472 Basics of Watercolor Botanical Illustration will be responsible for their own supplies. RESETTING PASSWORD
For help resetting forgotten passwords contact the ILR at ilr@bergen.edu. Returning students can also reset their ILR passwords online by clicking the prompt “I forgot sign in details” to be found just under the Sign in Details for Returning Students.

New Bonus Courses
IR-750 Showing of Yogi Berra Documentary “It Ain’t Over” and Q&A with Lindsay Berra – Tuesday, March 5; 12:45 PM to 3:15 PM. (TEC-201) Join the Institute of Learning in Retirement for a showing of the Yogi Berra documentary “It Ain’t Over” (2022) followed by a virtual Q&A with Executive Producer Lindsay Berra, an accomplished sports journalist, and the granddaughter of Yogi Berra. BCC professors Mark Altschuler and Brian Altano will provide a brief introduction to this film as well as lead a virtual Q&A following the film with Lindsay Berra. This film runs 1 hour and 38 minutes with the Q&A starting shortly after.
IR-678 Creative Aging – Thursdays May 16 and May 23; 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM. (TEC-201) We grow as we age and still have so much to offer. Discover more about yourself during this course led by Lorraine O’Brien, a certified Life Coach. There will be instruction and encouragement to help you discover more about yourself.
